Noise Mapping

Strategical Noise maps consist of visual display of environmental noise that can be reported in tabular or text based comments on determining the situation of the noise levels.

There are two main purposes in the process of the preparation of noise maps. 
First is to point the noise exposed areas and examine the exposure levels of the population. Second and more important is to prepare action plans regarding these areas in order to improve the situation in existing areas and prevent noise exposure in future sites.

In this regard as the first university in Turkey to seal a protocol on Control and Evaluation of Environmental Noise training with Turkish Environmental and Forestry Ministry, Bahcesehir University Technology Development Center - BUTECH is now offering its services on preparation of strategic noise maps. Preparation of noise maps requires deep knowledge and experience on various subjects. And Butech with its professional team on acoustics and environment prepares the noise maps with strict attention.

According to Turkish Legislation on Control and Evaluation of Environmental Noise preparation of the following till June 30, 2013 is required:

1. Residential areas with population over two hundred and fifty thousand,
2. Main roads with a car passage of more than six million per year,
3. Railways with a train passage of more than sixty thousand per year,
4. Airports with more than fifty thousand movements per year,

And strategic noise maps for the prior year are prepared. Each source has its own noise map while different sources can be merged into one general noise map.

Until 2014 action plans for those areas must also be prepared.

The purpose of keeping such a large margin of time is to prevent overload of the necessary work for the preparation of this engineering efforts. 

Preparation of Strategic Noise Maps is a mandatory work before the preparation of action plans. The action plans must be based on the results of the noise maps or the projects will fail both financially and conceptually. And it should be noted that action plans would also require a vast amount of effort as preparation of noise maps.
